About ANIMA

ANIMA is a unique marine life image bank based in Fremantle, Western Australia. Since 1993 ANIMA has provided high quality illustrations to scientific institutions, publishers, fisheries, museums and many other clients world-wide. Over that time, we have established a second studio in France.

ANIMA is owned and managed by Roger Swainston and Catherine Julien-Swainston. Many others collaborate
with us and contribute their unique skills to our projects. We specialise in accurate, realistic illustrations of fishes,
crustaceans and a wide range of aquatic creatures as well as underwater drawings, paintings of coral reefs
and Australian fish identification guides.

Our expertise is focused on Indo-Pacific fishes, from the shallows to deep water. We have illustrated the complete existing freshwater fishes of France as well as freshwater fishes of Australia. Our image bank also contains a wide variety of marine life from around the world.

More than 3,000 stock illustrations are immediately available from our image bank in digital format. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we can also create new illustrations of marine life to suit your specifications. As well as digital images, we also sell original paintings by Roger Swainston, museum quality archival prints produced from our studio, and Australian fish identification books illustrated and/or written by Roger Swainston.

Our Philosophy

We are proud of doing things differently and philanthropy is an important part of our philosophy. We donate many images, original paintings and prints to associations and organisations which promote conservation and educate communities about the critical protection of our oceans.

We support a number of small entities by significantly reducing our fees for not-for-profit organisations including educational institutions, university researchers and groups dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of our marine environment.
