Notes |
These strange pelagic, deepwater fishes are found at depths from 100 m to 2700 m. Barreleyes feed principally on gelatinous planktonic organisms such as siphonophores. The upward-directed eyes and downward-directed luminosity may be adaptations to feeding at extreme depths, where light can only just penetrate. Source : Swainston’s Fishes of Australia |
