Garden Eels grow to a maximum length of about 60 cm. They live in burrows in the sand and, with tails anchored in the substrate, extend their bodies into the current to feed on plankton. The large colonies really do resemble a garden of strange, sinuous reeds gently undulating in the current.These eels are difficult to approach closely.
