Lancetfishes are among the larges pelagic predators in deep water, the largest member, the Longnose Lancetfish can reach up to 2 m in length, the Hammerjaw is much smaller, growing to about 20 cm in length and is found worldwide. It feeds mainly on squids and is capable of swallowing prey larger than itself.
