The Saratoga is a fascinating ancient family, with fossil remains dating back at least 135 million years. Saratogas use their bony tongue rather than their lower jaw to bite against sharp bones in the roof of their mouth. They feed on insects, small fishes, frogs and yabbies, along with some plant material.
