Leatherjackets are widely distributed in Australian waters where they are common in weed beds and over rocky reefs. Leatherjackets range in size from the 8 cm Southern Pygmy Leatherjacket to the coral-reef dwelling Scrawled Leatherjacket, which can reach over 1 m.
